Improved access to Brockhall Quarry, Stretton Sugwas

For those of you who already enjoy the delights of Brockhall Quarry at Stretton Sugwas, access has often involved clambering over gates or a very awkward stile, which may have prevented some people from even attempting it. However, this has all changed and the Duchy has very kindly installed a kissing gate at the main entrance (see below).

This will certainly be a vast improvement, especially to the Walking for Health group from Wyevale, who explore the Quarry every second Thursday of the month and support the coffee morning afterwards.

We are extremely fortunate to have such a beautiful spot right on our doorstep and its popularity has gradually been increasing, especially over the last year or two. However,  some people are not as responsible or caring about the countryside as others, resulting in more litter and dog waste.  If you are accessing the Quarry from the main entrance, there’s a bin (plus dog bin) opposite the church.

  1. Hi
We are new comers to this beautiful place.
Is there anywhere else to park apart from by the main gate please?
    Many thanks
    Kind regards
    Nicola

    • Nicola,
You can park in the lay-by opposite the Kites Nest building site on the A438. Walk down the lane turn right onto the footpath which accesses the Quarry from the West.

  2. We enjoyed a very nice walk around the lake today and had brought a picnic but why is there only one seat . Surely a few more seats placed around the lake wouldn’t look an eye sore. It gives people a chance to take in the surrounds and birds and ducks particularly for the elderly .

    • Alistair,

I’m not sure, please check with Stretton Sugwas parish council for the answer. We covered this story as it’s close to where we live but the lakes are actually just outside our parish.

      Best wishes,
      Sarah Keefe
